‘Forest of Fabrication’ Exhibition showing at RIBA North - 11-09-2019

Following its hugely successful debut at the Building Centre early this year, dRMM’s timber-focused exhibition, Forest of Fabrication, will be re-opened in collaboration with RIBA North at the end of September in Liverpool.

Forest of Fabrication presents engineered timber as a defining material of 21st century architecture. The exhibition celebrates the existing capabilities and future potential of engineered timber, from concept to construction, across buildings from different scales and sectors. Originally curated by dRMM and the Building Centre, the show will feature 24 dRMM projects designed across 24 years. It will revisit some of the studio’s most known projects, as well as a few unrealised schemes, all of which have pushed design boundaries and explored the opportunities and challenges of timber structures within the architecture and design industry.

Forest of Fabrication includes models of the flatpacked Naked House (2006), Kingsdale School Auditorium (2007), Timber Stadium proposal (2009), Rundeskogen (2012), Endless Stair (2013), Floatopolis proposal (2014), Sky Health and Fitness Centre (2015), Maggie’s Oldham (2017) and the Stirling Prize winning Hastings Pier (2017). The models will be shown alongside a digital projection of concept sketches, project drawings, construction and final photographs.

Featuring international projects and guest speakers, the associated event programme will bring together international designers, developers, makers and academics to explore emerging materials and markets; innovations in off-site fabrication methods, current changes in legislation, and consider the arguments for timber whilst celebrating its role in contemporary architecture.

The Forest of Fabrication exhibition and events programme at the RIBA North is curated by dRMM, and supported by the Building Centre and RIBA North. We would like to thank our headline sponsors:
