The 2013 Wood Awards winning and highly commended projects were announced at last night’s prize-giving ceremony held at the Carpenter’s Hall, London. dRMM’s Tower of Love was highly commended in the ‘commercial and public access’ category.
The project was one of 30 buildings to be shortlisted by an independent panel of judges earlier this year. The pavilion is the first building to be erected on the Golden Mile in Blackpool for many years. It houses a restaurant, information office, registry offices and ceremony hall.
The project’s use of cross-laminated timber as both structure and internal finish is a deliberate strategy to position the product visibly in the realm of popular culture.
